Condition
The photograph is a little too yellow. There are some slight differences of color contrast between the leaves. The far left one is slightly sunfaded. Otherwise the colors are still fresh and vivid, with lovely animal details. The reverse is upholstered with cream damask. Good condition overall, beautiful piece ready to display.

Catalogue Note
A single Savonnerie panel of this pattern, now mounted on a firescreen, at Waddesdon Manor, is discussed by Pierre Verlet (P. Verlet, The James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, The Savonnerie, Fribourg, 1982, pp. 325-329, no. 14).
The eight different patterns for Savonnerie screens are listed, Verlet, op.cit., pp. 299-300. This rose à la mosaïque model was the first pattern woven at the Savonnerie from 1707 and was probably designed by Blain de Fontenay. Dupont delivered 96 leaves for screens of this pattern between 1707 and 1709. Each leaf costs 101 livres at the rate of 180 livres per aune. Between 1709 and 1711 the upholsterers of the Garde-Meuble made them up into eight screens each with six double-sided leaves. A five-leaf single-sided screen of this model was sold from the Pereire sale, Paris, 14-15 February 1937, lot 333, and subsequently re-sold 4 June 1937, lot 91. Another, with four leaves, was sold Ader, Paris, 6 December 1977, lot 197. A further two-leaf screen of this model is at Vaux-le-Vicomte.
