Condition

Both figures with extensive wear and small losses overall. The figure of Ananda has as approx. 3 1/2 inch horizontal crack with associated losses to the back across the shoulders; an approx. 3 inch long section of the edge of the base missing and with an associated crack; a patch repair to a short crack to the head and another at the mid-section of the back. The figure of Kasyapa with a U-form consolidated crack along the back of the head, a missing section of sash around one arm and there are losses to approx. half the edge of the base causing the figure to lean.

Mr. Cheung Sam Woo, a successful Hong Kong entrepreneur, was appointed the head of the Customs and Excise Department in the early 20th century. He became one of the wealthiest men in Hong Kong during his time and was an avid collector of Chinese art.
