Condition
The panel is cradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is relatively clean, and the varnish is relatively clear and even. An old repaired horizontal split is visible under raking light, running the width of the panel along the centre, with some associated visible retouching. There are a few further visible retouchings in the upper half of the background, probably as a result of old tenting. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these and further reveals retouching to an old diagonal scratch, lower right, approx. 10 by 1 cm., scattered along all four margins, and to two spots to the left of the central figure. In overall fair condition.
