Catalogue Note

This imaginary landscape, which seems to show a castle in the background, above an old town in ruins, is very mysterious and visionary. Victor Hugo created its most beautiful and inspired drawings while he was in exile in the Anglo–Normand islands, between 1852 and 1870.

We would like to thank Monsieur Pierre Georgel for kindly confirming the authenticity of this work. It will be included in his catalogue raisonné in preparation.
