Condition

The board bows slightly but appears stable. There are a few scattered instances of fine lines of cracking, including to the upper right quadrant, to the left of centre and to the blue pigment in the fountain, with probable instances elsewhere. There are a small number of flecks of loss to the blue and associated with other instances of cracking. These flecks are only visible upon close inspection. There is evidence that the gesso preparation has been rubbed in places revealing the board. There are flecks of probable mould down the left edge. There is surface dirt in places to the work and some instances of flecks of studio matter and detritus. The work would benefit from a clean. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals instances of fluorescence and retouching to the blue pigment and fluorescence where the the board is visible. The work is held in a painted wooden frame.
