Description

  • William Brooker
  • Composition in the Studio
  • signed and dated '59
  • oil on canvas
  • 61 by 76cm.; 24 by 30in.

Provenance

G.N.J. Fenn-Wiggin
Agnew's, London, where acquired by the late owner, 4th March 1994

Condition

The canvas is original. There is light surface dirt and instances of studio matter and surface detritus to the work, and a varnish that may be slightly discoloured. This excepting, the work appears in excellent overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light is made difficult by the layer of varnish but there appear to be a very small number of sensitively executed spot retouchings, including one to the extreme left edge towards the upper left corner and one towards the centre of the extreme upper edge with a few further instances. The work is held in a gilt painted composite frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
