Catalogue Note

The 1980s saw an explosion of creativity in New York, not just in art, but across creative disciplines. Both Warhol and Basquiat produced music as well as art, and were often spotted at night clubs with the likes of Madonna. Basquiat often referenced music and dance in his work, as in the two ‘dance squares’ in the present work.
