Catalogue Note
During the last decade of his career, Andy Warhol introduced a large number of new themes and series to his already diverse oeuvre. In 1982, the year before he would produce his Paintings for Children that were shown in a room covered in an artist-designed wallpaper of fish, Warhol already experimented with smaller-sized canvasses depicting lobsters and crabs. He also went on to produce a cycle of large-scale paintings of Endangered Species, which just as Lobster were executed in bright colours using his signature silkscreen and acrylic technique.
