Catalogue Note
Using his signature portraiture methods, Andy Warhol has here captured the portrait of an unusual sitter – the bulldog of Yves Saint Laurent, who went by the name of Moujik. Having previously painted the portrait of the famous fashion designer in 1972, Warhol turned his attention to his dog over a decade later and captured the animal in his unique visual language. Moujik is portrayed as if he was one of Warhol’s human sitters, carefully positioned and full of personality.
