Condition
It has not been possible to see the work entirely unframed. The canvas is not lined and is undulating. There is an uneven varnish. Examination under UV light reveals a spot of retouching (approx. 6 cm wide) towards the center of the right edge and some smaller dots of retouching in places, some of which associated with paint losses, most predominately towards the right edge and to the lower part of the composition. There is a crack associated with paint lifting (approx. 6 cm long) to the black pigment in the upper left quadrant and a smaller additional paint lifting to the left-hand side of the face. There are lines of craquelure most predominately located to the most thickly applied pigment. There are paint losses in areas, most noticeably towards the left part of the lower edge. This work is in fairly good condition.
