Condition

Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, attached to the mount at all four corners and at the centre of the upper edge, and floating in the over-mount. The left, upper and lower edges are deckled. There are a number of artist's pinholes to each of the four corners. There is an approximately 5cm-long horizontal crease to the right of the clown's mouth and a further horizontal crease below the right side of the yellow hat. There are some very fine lines of craquelure to some of the thicker ink pigments with some associated minuscule paint losses in places. There are some minor surface scratches in places, many of which probably relate to the artist's process. This work is in overall very good condition.
