Catalogue Note
Executed in the 1960s, at a time when Barcelona and the surrounding area became an important centre for the production of textiles, the present work was commissioned by Miguel Samaranch, a successful business man and patron of the arts, who founded Escola Catalana de Tapís. Samaranch chose to collaborate with his fellow Catalan friend, Joan Miró to execute a series of unique tapestries. This work forms part of this extraordinary commission and is further evidence of Miró's celebrated exploration of, and experimentation with, atypical mediums.
