This work is still on its original stretcher. The paint layer does not seem to have ever been cleaned or varnished. The very heavy impasto had become unstable in the past, and there are some retouches in the heaviest areas of pigment. The retouches are reasonably successful. There are a couple of spots that remain unretouched, for instance in the side of the head of the figure on the left and in the lighter area to her left. The work is slightly dirty.
