Catalogue Note

On 14th October 1947, Chuck Yeager, while piloting his aircraft the “X1”, brought new heights to aero technology by becoming the first man to break the speed of sound. The connection between Chuck Yeager and Rolex were formed on that day as photographs documented him wearing a Rolex, however the exact model he was wearing are unknown. In the later years it has been spotted that Chuck Yeager would wear an iconic GMT II 16710 with a red and black “Coke” bezel. To pay homage to this well-accomplished pilot, the Real Macoy’s, a Japanese clothing brand, introduced a modified GMT II 16700, adding an extra line of red text over “GMT-Master”, featuring Chuck Yaeger’s name. Two aircrafts are engraved on the caseback, the X1 and the P51. The X1 was the first aircraft he piloted to break through the sound barrier, and the P51 was a signature aircraft he piloted in WWII.
