Condition
MVT: is running at the time of cataloguing, the calendar advancing and the minute-repeating mechanism nicely in phase. CASE: in great condition with nice fluting to the lugs and strong hallmarks on the back. There is surface wear and there are some fine surface dings visible with the naked eye. DIAL: in great condition with very minor surface blemishes visible mainly to the indexes when examining the dial under magnification. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. You are advised that watch straps or bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator or crocodile) are not sold with the watch and we reserve the right to remove these straps or bands prior to shipping. Furthermore, the watch may not come with its original manufacturers strap or band. Catalogue Note
First presented in 1993, the reference 5016 features a classic Calatrava case in yellow, rose, white gold or platinum that brings together all the complications that aficionados of exquisite watches always dream of: tourbillon, minute repeater, perpetual calendar with an elaborate retrograde date, as well as a display for moon phases and a leap-year indication. A calibre composed of 506 parts controls the choreography of these intricately interdependent functions. Since 1993, around 200 pieces were produced in total and to our knowledge only a handful of pink gold watches have been offered at auctions.
This watch is presented with the original paperwork, Certificate of Origin and the additional solid case back. Further to this, the watch has been kept in excellent overall condition and the case retains nice, sharp lines with very strong hallmarks.
