Condition

MVT: running at the time of cataloguing. CASE: with some signs of wear and tarnishing to the gold surfaces. The enamel scene to the case back in very good condition. The blue enamel border to the case back with some damage and restoration. DIAL: with no visible hairlines. In good overall condition. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. Catalogue Note

Philippe Terrot, born 1696 in Pont-en-Royans in France, was made a refugee in 1700 and emigrated to Switzerland, where he became a citizen in 1732, and died in 1781 in Saconnex outside Geneva. Terrot specialised in high quality enamel watches and automata, and is credited to having produced some of the most exquisite Genevan timepieces. In the 1750s he was in partnered with Jean-Pierre Thuillier, together with whom he created numerous, high-quality gold watches decorated with enamel and porcelain.
