Condition

MVT: running at the time of cataloguing and the chronograph functioning. CASE: in good honest condition with sharp lugs and nice proportions. There are many surface scratches and pinhead dings visible to the naked eye. There are a few numerals on the bezel with some loss of paint and there is some light wear to the outermost edge of the glass. Bracelet with light stretching, reference 78360, and the endlinks stamped 503. DIAL: in very good condition. The luminous material is uniform and no longer reacts to UV light. There is a fine surface scratch and a round elongated blemish visible within the subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. Catalogue Note

This automatic Daytona with L series serial number was manufactured in the first year of the new automatic Daytona’s production. Introduced at the Basel fair in 1988 this example has some very noteworthy attributes. Firstly, the rare bezel is calibrated to 400 units. Secondly, the dial carries the rare suspended logo where the Cosmograph signature magically floats below the Superlative designations.
