Condition
This work is in excellent condition overall. There is evidence of minor wear and handling along the edges. There are scattered paint bristles and fine fibers embedded throughout, inherent to the work. Upon close inspection, there is evidence of media accretion along the extreme turning edges with associated minor craquelure, most noticeable in the upper left and right edges, inherent to the work. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note
"Among Borremans's works there are meanwhile numerous reclining figures, on their backs or their bellies, in side view or as torsos, carried away behind glass, even head down or skull up, which largely hides the body receding into the depths...what comes across is a non-linear thinking in images that permeates his entire output. It is a way of thinking that is expressed primarily in ways of theatrical aspects—in postures and gestures with arrested breath, in dissolving light." Hans Rudolf Reust, "Present Perfect" in Exh. Cat., Württembergische Kunstverein Stuttgart, Michaël Borremans: Eating the Bread, 2011, pp. 128 and 130
