Condition
Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. One open crack to the proper left side of the head of the figure and to the bottom of the horn as well. Fine brown patina.

Cette miniature - ornant l'extrémité d'une petite corne d'antilope - relève du rare corpus des sifflets sculptés du Bas-Congo, « associés au culte du nkisi, spécialement conçus pour la chasse [...] et destinés à des personnes socialement éminentes, tels les hommes-médecine (banganga) et les chefs du village » (Söderberg in Arts d'Afrique Noire, 1974, n° 9, p. 26-27). Elle se distingue par le saisissant jeu de lignes, l'expressivité de la gestuelle, et le traitement délicat des canons de beauté en pays Kongo.
