Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Both arms have been broken and glued. Tiny marks, nicks and scratches to wood throughout. Fine nuanced patina.

Catalogue Note

Chef-d’œuvre miniature de conception abstraite cette poupée Bagirimi s’affirme comme l’une des plus abouties d’un corpus déjà restreint. L'audace de la structure géométrique répond à la pureté du geste sculptural qui ne détaille que les traits du visage et les attributs féminins, en accord avec le rôle de ces poupées, utilisées lors de rituels de fécondité. S’ajoutent enfin le décor gravé d’un raffinement extrême et les nuances de la patine profonde qui affirment son archaïsme.
