Catalogue Note
This Qur’an section is noteworthy for its strong hand and some intricate geometrical roundels used as verse markers. The gold surah headings are closely related to the ones in a copy now in the Khalili Collection dated to the twelfth century (inv.no. QUR124 published in Déroche 1992, pp.168-9). A very similar section in size and style sold recently at Christie’s London, 21 April 2016, lot 63.
