reposant sur trois pieds dorés en tête d'éléphants, le corps cylindrique décoré de deux registres de motifs archaïsants sur fond turquoise, deux anses en forme de "U" renversé de part et d'autre d'un imposant couvercle orné de rinceaux fleuris sur fond turquoise et en partie supérieure de quatre ruyi ajourés en bronze doré à décor floral autour de la prise cylindrique ajourée de dragons enroulés parmi les nuées (2)
Condition
Small areas of loss to the enamels on the cover and around the body. Light overall pitting. Small areas of retouching around the edges of the cover and along the rim of the censer. The dragon finial is leaning to one side. The top is slightly dented. Overall wear to the gilding which has been cleaned.

Cloisonne enamel censers of this type and fine quality were made for altar sets placed in Buddhist temples and palaces. Compare a five-piece altar set illustrated in situ in the Qianqing Gong (Mansion of Heavenly Purity), illustrated in Chuimei Ho and Bennet Bronson, Splendours of China's Forbidden City, Chicago, 2004, fig. 32. Compare two censers of the same size and shape with slight variations in the decor, sold Sotheby's Paris, 12th December 2013, lot 3, and another example sold in Sotheby's Paris, 23rd June 2016, lot 91.
