Condition
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes, Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work has an old glue lining. The paint layer is stable. It is clean and varnished. No retouches are apparent under ultraviolet light. The artist painted on an unprimed piece of linen, which has discolored over the years. There is some visible darkness as a result, for example in the sheet music in the center of the right side. Some of this discoloration may have received retouching that is not clearly visible under ultraviolet light. If there has been any, it has been well applied, and the work should be hung in its current state.
