Condition

The sheet has been laid on board. There is a layer of light surface dirt and the sheet has discoloured. There is a tear to the left edge below the horizon line. There are pinholes to the corners. Held in a modern gold and black frame behind glass. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

The present work dates from Serov's trip through Europe in 1885 and depicts Amsterdam from the elevated vantage point of the room Serov was staying in. Fedor Shekhtel was a leading representative of Art Nouveau in Russian architecture.
