- signed in Latin, inscribed St Petersb and dated 1855 on the reverse and bearing remnants of a label on the stretcher

Condition
Original canvas on its original stretcher. There are minor abrasions along all four edges with some very minor associated paint loss. There is a pattern of craquelure throughout the composition. There is very minor paint loss to the small area of raised paint in the upper left. The surface is covered in a layer of dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals a discoloured varnish layer and several minor spots of retouching, notably to the top and bottom right corners and to the top edge. Held in a gilt wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
