gouache on paper'Portrait with Cross' is an exceptionally high quality large-scale work by Vladimir Yakovlev, an artist who predominantly painted in gouache on paper or masonite. He is best known for his flower still lifes and enigmatic portraits. His first one-day exhibition took place in the Dostoevsky Museum in Moscow in 1963, together with Eduard Steinberg whose pastel palette is similarly muted.

Condition

The sheet is uneven on the right hand side with a crease at the center of the right edge. There are a few minor flecks of surface dirt and minor creases. Otherwise in overall good condition. Held in a simple wooden frame behind plexiglass. Unexamined out of frame.
