Condition
Overall measurements: 152cm across the top, 157cm across the bottom, 253cm the left hand side, 255cm the right hand side. Pile generally in very good condition, approximately 5-6mm in depth, with a band of lower pile in the red at the level of the upper dark blue cartouche, probably oxidisation. Very dark blue -blacks partially oxidised but still extant, partially differential oxidisation in the other colours. Dark blue wefts. Braided upper edge end finish extant for about 2/3rds of the upper end, with warps ends for the remainder, Lower end with vestiges of dark blue flatweave, later overlocking to stabilise, teased warp fringes 10-15mm. Sidecords appear to be original. Lovely rich colour and very dynamic border

Catalogue Note
This unusual Kazak rug bears a border design more typically associated with the so called 'pinwheel' Kazak rugs. Also when bearing in mind examples, such as that sold at Skinner 11 Febraury 2012, the distribution of colour and palette is also similar.
