Description

  • 58 by 50 cm, 22 7/8  by 19 3/4  in.
the hinged cover painted in gilt with figures situated amongst pavilions in a waterscape, the exterior of the cover and box with birds and florets, the fitted interior with a silk embroidered two-fold panel detailed with a courtly scene and enclosing a further silk cloth with figures

Provenance

Acquired by Count Don Enrico Lucchesi Palli (1861-1924) circa 1890.

Condition

The lacquer box is in good condition with the exception of a 3x2.5cm., black lacquer flake to the left bottom corner and a circa 5x2cm., area of blistering to the black lacquer at the bottom left corner; some further very minor cracks to the lacquer, minor nibbles along the edges, minor scratches to the surface and some light staining to the surface predominantly to the top right and bottom right corners; the painting on the cover of the internal silk-covered box needs re-attaching; the four silk tassels are in good condition; and the silk cloth (circa 2.35m plus border) is in good condition.
