Description

engraved with the Royal arms of Spain within the collars of The Order of The Golden Fleece and The Order of Charles III, applied flower and beaded bands, lion and drop ring handles, numbered 1 and 3 and with engraved scratchweights underneath 3-10-12 and 3-9,
Provenance
The engraved arms are probably those of Maria-Luisa, Empress of France, Duchess of Parma (1791-1847), and daughter of Charles IV, King of Spain. Following her marriage in 1795 to her first cousin, Louis of Bourbon-Parma, heir to the Dukedom of Parma, she was Queen of Etruria with Florence as its capital, and Duchess of Lucca.
The duchy of Parma having been confiscated from the Bourbon-Parma line in 1801, was eventually ruled by Marie-Louise (1791-1847) second wife of Napoleon. At Marie-Louis’s death the duchy was reunited under the Bourbon Parma line by Maria Luisa's son, Charles II.
Matching wine coolers numbered 2 and 4 by the same maker and with the same coats of arms were sold 'Property of a European Royal Family', Sothebys London, 14 April 2011, lot 123 (£58,850).
