Catalogue Note
The (RED) pavilion is an original Frank Gehry design that arose from two primary considerations – construction utility and the meaning of (RED). The model, created from foam core, paper and plywood, is an assembly of puzzle pieces locked together to form a pavilion, which speak to Gehry’s clean lines and pragmatism – as Gehry once said, “AIDS is still a puzzle that needs to be solved.” Once built, the external panels of the structure would be movable and easily enhanced by digital screens to display creative content on a wide scale basis, thus enabling the structure to tell a story in both its literal and metaphorical way possible.
