Etching and engraving, 1633, a fine, rich and tonal impression of New Hollstein's second state (of eight), on paper with a Strasbourg Lily watermark (Hinterding C.b.)
Condition
Trimmed just outside the borderline at top, approximately 7mm within the borderline at bottom, and to and fractionally within the subject at left and right, in good condition, with two small abrasions in the background at upper centre and upper left (possibly with a few touches of pen and ink), a minute tear along the upper sheet edge at centre, a 1cm tear along the upper right sheet edge, several nicks along the sheet edges toward the lower right corner, a thin spot underneath the left arm of the cross, slight thinning in the lower blank area, a subtle white accretion beneath the carpet, a diagonal crease in the upper right corner with associated minute losses of ink in the sky, and a skinned area in the upper left corner verso, unframed. (*Soft horizontal crease along verso inherent to production)
