This portrait has been traditionally identified as depicting Countess Zofia Potocka, née Clavone (1760-1822), the Turkish slave courtesan who later married into the Polish aristocracy and then had an affair with Prince Potemkin. Her name, however, is not recorded in Ritt’s sitter's book.
