Catalogue Note
The sitter, identified by Humphry as 'Saib Zada' (Little Prince), was the adopted son and heir of Asaf-ud-Daula, Nawab Wazir of Oudh (d. 1797). For a portrait of Asaf-ud-Daula, painted by Humphry in the same year as the present miniature see: Sotheby's, London, 16 April 2008, lot 48.
