Condition
The canvas has been lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is thick but relatively clear. There is some evidence of wear in the darks of the tree and in the fence, and there are some small losses around the loweest edges of the canvas. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two campaigns of retouching. The older campaign appears to consist of wash retouchings in the sky and some strengthening in the foreground and in the birds in the foreground; the more recent campaign also consists of small retouchings in the foreground and a handful of scattered spot retouchings in the crow and in the fence. These are not large, nor numerous, and do not affect the legibility of the beautiful, lucid image. It is in overall good condition.
