Condition
The panel is uncradled, made up of a single plank, and is flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is slightly discoloured. There are three vertical splits starting from the upper edge, the longest measuring circa 21cm. and descending through Christ's face, the second circa 15cm. and descending through the Virgin's face, and the third circa 8cm. ending in the saint's hair. There are some visible retouchings in the figures' flesh tones, most notably in the Virgin's right cheek and neck, and in Christ's chest, left arm and left leg. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals these, as well as a newer campaign of retouchings found along the central split, in the top 2cm of the furthest right crack, in the saint's right brow and neck, in the Virgin's right index finger and thumb, scattered throughout the red pigments of her dress, and in the lower part of her sleeve. In overall good condition. Offered in a plain gilt frame with velvet trimmings in good condition.
