  • Portrait Miniature with a Nobleman
  • painted on glass, within a silver gilt and glass pendant case
  • Miniature: 6.7cm., 2 5/8 in. overall including hoopcross: 7.1 by 4.3cm., 2 13/16 by 1 5/8 in. overall including hoop
together with a Spanish or Southern Italian gold and pearl pendant Cross, 19th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the pendant miniature is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is general wear to the paint, which has discoloured in areas and has a slightly mottled appearance. The man appears to have a halo which has faded. There is general wear to the mount. The gilding is peeling in particular to the back and there is some oxidation consistent with the material. The pendant Cross with pearls is in good condition with minor wear. There are minor abrasions to the gold and it is possible that some pieces of filigree could be lost. There are some minor abrasions and natural imperfections to the pearls. The gold is inscribed: 2/14 and: N1=7= [?].
