Condition
There are a number of small tears at the top margin and a small hole, and two others at the top of the head of the bird, where there is also a small loss to the surface of the paper, as in few other places on the sheet. There are two further small holes on the wing . A bigger loss to the lower left edge, which has been made up. Smaller tears and rubbing on the other edges. The drawing was probably detached from an old backing, as some of the paper is still visible on the verso.

The rapid application of the wash and the tempera, together with the boldness in the execution, are similar to other animal studies traditionally associated with the name of Giovanni da Udine (1487-1564).
