Condition
The canvas is lined and slightly buckling, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is discoloured. There are a handful of spots where the canvas has raised almost appearing to bubble, for example in the sitter's forehead. There are a few small spots of visible retouching visible to the naked eye scattered throughout the composition, for example in the sitter's jaw bone. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a milky varnish underneath which these are visible, as well as a few other small spots of retouching, but the painting appears to be otherwise largely untouched. In overall good condition.
