Description

Of lozenge design, set to the centre with the Royal monogram for Queen Elizabeth, Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions (1936-1952), on purple guilloché enamel ground, to a foliate border set with circular-cut and rose diamonds, fitted case stamped Carrington & Co Ltd.
Provenance
By family tradition the brooch was given to the vendor by her Governess, whose twin sister taught the Queen's daughters, the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, French at Windsor castle.
Condition
Diamonds are bright and lively, estimated clarity SI, estimated total diamond weight of circular-cut diamonds approximately 0.80-1.00 carats. Rubies mid-red, transparent. Stones with surface wear, such as minor scratches and some rubbed facet edges. Enamel in good condition, some minor surface scratches. Mount with light scratches, some dark discolouration to reverse and borders commensurate with age and wear. Brooch fitting is secure, catch opens easily. Length approximately 39 x 26mm. Overall condition good. Accompanied by fitted case stamped 'By appointment to the Late King Georg V. Carrington & Co Ltd. 130, Regent street ST.W.1.
