- A Katana, late 19th/early 20th century
- steel, lacquer,
- approx 95cm. long, 37¼in.
the shallow-curving blade signed Bizen Norimune, possibly later, within a black lacquer saya of sectioned design, the tsuba and fuchi-gashira of parcel gilt shibuichi with landscape scenes depicting ships and islands, the shagreen handle with two menuki modelled as gourds on a vine in shibuichi and gold takazogan,
Condition
Chips and nicks to the blade, mostly towards the tip, with minor wear and areas of slight discoloration to metal. Wear and age cracks to shagreen handle; binding of handle intact. Scratches to metal surfaces. Tsuba slightly loose. Menuki and peg intact; blade secure in handle. Kozuka deficient. Tang with oxidation to surfaces, signed Bizen Normune. Cap to end of scabbard deficient. Scratches and areas of wear to scabbard. Overall condition commensurate with age.
