Condition

Compiled by Alex France at Hamish Dewar Ltd., 22/05/2018: Structural Condition The canvas is unlined and is securely attached to what certainly appears to be the artist's original keyed wooden stretcher. This is ensuring a stable structural support. The painting was inspected in its glazed frame for the purposes of this report. Paint Surface The paint surface has the artist's original unvarnished appearance. There are several areas of slightly raised networks of craquelure within the sky, most notably below the centre of the upper edge. These are stable. There is also an area of drying craquelure within the barn close to the lower part of the right edge. This is also entirely stable. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows just a few small spots of retouching on the far right part of the upper edge. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in good and stable condition.
