Please note that the work is stretched but unframed. The canvas is unlined and is slightly loose. There is some light horizontal creasing which could be indicative of the unstretched canvas having been rolled. There is a minor scratch to the surface running parallel to the lower framing edge and measuring approx. 115cm. long. There are areas of apparent minor retouching throughout the work's background, most noticeable by the sitter's head. These marks appear to be contemporary with the creation of the work and the artist's intent. There are faint stretcher bar marks along the top and right hand framing edges, most noticeable within the top right-hand corner. These marks are indicative of the canvas having previously been stretched to a different size. There is very minor wear to the bottom corners of the work. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals no signs of restoration or repair. Overall the work appears to be in very good original condition.
