Catalogue Note
_____________________________________________________________________ A Roman Affair
The perfect marriage between Roman history and contemporary creativity in the form of jewellery is the essence of Bulgari. Dating all the way back to 1884, Bulgari has long been recognized for its unmistakable audacity for style, sense of volume and intrepid colours, creations of timeless symbolism, true to its Greek and Roman roots.
During the ‘Dolce Vita’ years, otherwise known as the 1950s-60s, the world-class jewellery house won over the hearts of the global elite, including Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. To this day, the Bulgari name is synonymous with exceptional gems and exquisite design appreciated by stars such as Nicole Kidman adorned with a 241 carat rough diamond necklace by Bulgari at the 2002 Oscars.
Similar to how Bulgari has captured the world, the carved leaf motif, as seen in Lot 1756, has too intrigued its beholders. The Greco-Roman inspired leaf carving is a symbol of immortality, longevity and healing; adopted into their architecture, artwork and culture, it is a true representation of the Greco Roman Empire.
Lot 1756 showcases Bulgari’s ingenious skills and impressive boldness elevating jewel into art. The necklace harmoniously suspends the soft curves of the exotically carved emeralds in juxtaposition with the precise lines of the timeless diamonds, encapsulating the Bulgari spirit seamlessly with its unrivaled craftsmanship, unprecedented style and ambition to innovate.
