Condition

The sheet has been laid onto a backing sheet. The edges of the sheet have been cut, with an additional small horizontal cut to the upper left corner. There are a number of restored tears to the sheet, including a horizontal line in the lower left quadrant and a diagonal line extending up from the lower right edge with a further line below this. There are some faint creases to the sheet in places, most likely as a result of the adhesive attaching the sheet and the backing sheet, and evidence of staining from this adhesive. There is an area of paint loss in the blue pigment to the centre of the composition. There is cracking to the lower left quadrant, with associated lifting to one line of cracking in the yellow impasto, with further instances of cracking elsewhere. There is reticulation scattered throughout the black pigment and evidence of flattening to areas of the thick impasto. There are handling marks including finger prints to the edges, in keeping with the Artist's working methods. There is studio detritus in places and some light surface dirt and matter. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is attached to the mount with two tabs at the upper edge. Unframed.
