Condition

The canvas is original. There is some undulation to the canvas in all four corners of the work. There are small losses of paint at the extreme edges. There are some areas of craquelure in the upper section of the orange, vertical stripe, with some further evidence of reticulation in some of the thicker areas of impasto. There is evidence of surface dirt, particularly visible to the right half of the canvas, and studio matter throughout. This excepting the work appears to be in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals one isolated spot of retouching to the upper left corner and evidence of an uneven varnish in the purple pigment, in particular to the right of the yellow circular shape. The work is held within a simple wooden slip frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any further questions regarding the present lot.
