Literature

Michael Compton (intro.), Mary Martin, exh. cat., Tate, London, 1984, illustrated within the Artist's studio in 1957, p.8.

Condition

Unexamined out of frame. The work consists of collage laid onto a board, which is in turn affixed to an Artist's prepared board. The corners of the primary board have very slight dents with associated loss and there are a small number of further small nicks to the extreme edges of the board. There is some lifting to some elements of the collage, in particular to one horizontal rectangle at the lower left. There is some reticulation to the black gouache pigment in places and some further more minor instances to other pigments. There is some staining to the paper collage elements, most likely due to the Artist's adhesive, and some possible time staining to the paper. The work is held behind glass and within the Artist's painted wooden frame, which is slightly loose.
