Catalogue Note
Bernice Chrysler Garbisch (1906-1979) was the daughter of Walter P. Chrysler, founder of the eponymous automobile company, and with her husband Edgar Garbisch (1899-1979) formed an important collection of Impressionist paintings and American folk and decorative arts in their New York and Maryland residences. The sale of their collection in 1980 set a record for the highest total at that time for a single owner art and antiques auction.
