Catalogue Note
Born to the only Jewish family in the village of Lisen, Moravia, Blum was raised in an Orthodox home. In 1923 he immigrated to Mandate Palestine, where he documented the magnificent landscapes of the Holy Land, its holy places and scenes of daily life. He painted pioneers working the ground in the kibbutz, street scenes in the alleys and markets of Jerusalem and landscapes drenched in sunlight. In this rare synagogue interior, Blum has brought his love of light indoors. All ages of men and boys are gathered together in worship in this bright and colourful synagogue interior.
