Catalogue Note
"I try to produce antagonic painting, full of tensions. Tension is the key to my painting. I make abject subjects beside beautiful subjects, very fine color chords beside whiplashes, and bursts that seek to light up the night. And the value of those fine chords is precisely that they are beside bursts, thus the abject courts the beautiful. One creates tension in the other." —Rodolfo Nieto, quoted in Homenaje a Rodolfo Nieto (exhibition catalogue), Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey, Monterrey, 1995, p. 29
