Catalogue Note

The reference 6239 introduced the 'Daytona' name to the Rolex lineup of sports watches. The model was launched in 1960 (early models not yet bearing the Daytona name) and was soon running concurrently with the 6241 which had an acrylic-set bezel, as opposed to the all steel engraved bezel on the 6239. These watches were also offered with an 'exotic' dial like the present lot, with a different font for the registers and a contrasting outer track. Sotheby's is pleased to offer the present lot for the first time at auction on behalf of its original owner. The watch remains in original condition with a well preserved, tri-color dial.
